Extremely Reliable
This 94 Astro CS Extended now has over 138,000 miles on it, and the only breakdown was the EGR valve at 120,000 miles. All I did was normal maintenance (oil changes, alignment, tires, and tuneup). General Motors built this one right.
Spunky AWD Astro
I've used my '00 AWD Astro Cargo van for work; where I frequently travel many miles on and off road. The AWD system works well when going up steep dirt hills, and has good poor weather traction. The van is easy to manuver in parking lots, and has nice passing and acceleration power.

2000 Chevy Astro Ext Cargo Van
This is one hell of a van. Aside from the known transmission PCV valve problems (which can be fixed more permanently by using an aftermarket valve), this has to be the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. Incredibly well designed. Engine is very powerful, more so than any other van I've driven in its class. Unfortunately, Chevy discontinued the Astro as of 2006 so '05 is the last model year you will find. This is the ultimate small work van. Note that the standard roof rack solutions max out at 44" widths so if you need a 48" wide rack, you'll have to come up with a custom mounting solution for your wide rack.
Best kept secret in small van market
I bought this van with 150k on it. It is about to flip 200k. The original motor/transmission/rear end are functioning flawlessly. I think it is interesting that it is rated to tow 3500 lbs and most front wheel drive van are rated at 1,000-1,500. Just goes to show you that rear wheel drive is a stronger design.-my neighbor has a courier service with a 1999 astro van that had 400k when he sold it. The new owner drove it home.
Good/reliable
We have a Astro van that has been pritty good van .we always rely on if any of the other cars break down and the is often with a sable.and my wife drives it to college every day.We have had some work done but mostly just normal. But A/C gave us trouble all the time never worked.and the rear end went out .But I would call it a good van .
David Allen loves his '94 Astro Van :-)
I've driven over 400,000 miles every year...this '94 Astro Van is a beast.
Second Thoughts
The van fits my needs for work, no other small cargo style vans available from other manufacturers. The free commercial shelving package was a nice bonus. Interior space rapidly diminished with those shelves, though. This was a nice move from a small pickup truck, my stuff is dry and secure. Absolutely no vehicle problems to date, drives in the snow surprisingly well.
Never buy another one
The van ran fine for about the first 400 miles or so. Then it began to shake and droan while cruising at 50 MPH or coming to a stop. Took it in 3 times to the dealer and they finally lubricated the slip yoke. That solution lasted for about 1000 miles. Now it's back. The brakes are terrible. Hope I never have to stop in a hurry. Now, above all else the thing is squealing like crazy. To top it all off the tranny is begining to slip and shudder after cruising on the highway for an hour. I'm up to 20000 miles on it now and hope it dies so I can get rid of it. Oh, by the way if you go to the dealer for service do not mention it is under warrenty because they won't fix it properly.+
Astronomically Dependable
My Astro all wheel drive easily maneuvers through mud, snow and ice. The 4.3 six cylinder engine gives the power of an eight cylinder with the economy of a six. A 4 foot by 8 foot sheet of plywood fits comfortably in the cargo space and the side and rear doors allows for easy loading. The solid construction of this vehicle is something I've always liked about Chevy products. Just the sound of the doors closing rings of quality. It has preformed better than average over the years

Poo Poo!
My astro was my best friend...until it lost a tire on the highway. I was heading eastbound on 71 highway when my tire shot of the vehicle. DANGEROUS..do not buy this vehicle.
Stronger roller cube for work
This cargo van like a cube but it was very easy to load every think like boxes and others kind of things. Astro has a 4.3liters with 190 horsespower i never had problem to town that i want.
