VW said owners can remotely lock and unlock car doors, view status of windows, doors and sunroof, check the fuel level and find the location of a parked vehicle with the Car-Net app. Owners also can receive speed and boundary alerts to monitor certain drivers, including newly licensed ones, in their households.
The Apple Watch app works with all versions of the 2015 Volkswagen Golf, Golf GTI, Golf R, Golf SportWagen and e-Golf, as well as certain trim levels of 2014-'15 Volkswagen Beetle, CC, Eos, Jetta, Passat and Tiguan.
VW joins BMW and Porsche in offering apps for the Apple Watch. BMW's i Remote app works with the i3 and i8 electrified vehicles. Porsche's Car Connect app can display certain vehicle functions via the Apple Watch.
