The Vision BMW Alpina Concept Is a Sleek V8-Powered Luxury GT
This sleek grand tourer concept points to a more polished, comfort-driven take on BMW performance
When BMW announced it was buying German tuning company Alpina, it raised an obvious question: What would this boutique brand become under full BMW ownership? The new Vision BMW Alpina, which just made its debut at the 2026 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, gives us a clear preview. Future Alpina models will still be fast and refined, but they'll now sit more formally inside BMW's luxury lineup. Alpina is now being positioned as BMW's comfort-first performance luxury division, something like a blend between BMW M and Rolls-Royce.
What is the Vision BMW Alpina?
The Vision BMW Alpina is a concept car, so don't expect to see this exact long, low coupe sitting at a dealer anytime soon. But BMW is using it to show the direction of future Alpina models, and that direction is clear: fast, expensive-looking and more focused on relaxed speed than racetrack attitude.
At 204.7 inches long, the Vision BMW Alpina is about the length of a full-size luxury sedan, but its roofline gives it the shape of a sleek grand tourer. BMW says the concept can carry four adults in comfort. Under the hood is a V8, though BMW hasn't released any information beyond that.
The design brings back classic Alpina cues, including thin side graphics, 20-spoke wheels and four oval exhaust tips. The wheels are huge, measuring 22 inches in front and 23 inches in back, but the overall look is more tailored suit than gym tank top.
Alpina's first stand-alone model under BMW's umbrella
Alpina used to be an independent company that modified BMWs with more power, upgraded interiors and unique chassis tuning. The Munich-based automaker announced the acquisition of the Alpina brand rights in 2022, and the transition was completed at the end of 2025, with BMW Alpina becoming part of the BMW Group in 2026.
That changes Alpina's role. Instead of being a small outside specialist, it now sits inside BMW's luxury strategy. BMW says the first production model from the new BMW Alpina division will arrive next year and will be inspired by the 7 Series. That suggests high prices, plenty of customization and a softer, more polished personality than an M car, all previewed by the Vision concept.
Inside, the Vision BMW Alpina uses BMW's Panoramic iDrive system, including a passenger screen and a full-width display area near the base of the windshield. The steering wheel has the same unusual shape as the one in the iX3, which we didn't exactly love. Maybe Alpina can make it feel fancy enough in final production form that everyone stops noticing its weird shape.
The concept also puts a big emphasis on comfort. There's an Alpina-exclusive Comfort+ drive mode, full-grain leather and even a rear console with crystal glasses and a self-deploying bottle setup. That last part probably won't help with a Costco run, but it does explain where BMW wants Alpina to live, in the space between a sporty BMW and a chauffeur-ready Rolls.
