Updated 2017 Subaru BRZ Arrives at Dealers in Early September

CHERRY HILL, New Jersey — The updated 2017 Subaru BRZ coupe will arrive at Subaru dealerships in early September, featuring improved handling, increased performance and enhanced styling, Subaru of America said on Thursday.

A Performance package for the BRZ Limited model with the six-speed manual transmission will go on sale at Subaru dealerships in the winter of 2017. The package bundles Brembo brake calipers and larger brake rotors, Sachs Performance shock absorbers and 17-inch black aluminum-alloy wheels.

Pricing on the 2017 BRZ will be announced closer to the launch date.

Exterior updates on the 2017 BRZ include new full-LED headlights and an aluminum rear spoiler in matching body color and black finish on all models. The BRZ Premium and Limited models get a new 10-spoke, 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheel.

The cabin features a redesigned leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The 2017 BRZ receives updated coil springs and dampers, along with a larger rear stabilizer bar. Additional reinforcements to the chassis were added to the strut tower braces, transmission cross-member plate and rear wheel housings to increase rigidity.

The 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in the BRZ is updated with new valves, camshaft and cylinder heads.

Subaru said engine output in models with the six-speed manual transmission is increased from 200 to 205 horsepower.

The BRZ's "Sport" mode has been renamed "Track" mode as a result of the changes.

Now standard on all models is Incline Start Assist, which prevents the car from rolling back on an incline.

Key BRZ rivals include the Honda Civic Si, Hyundai Genesis coupe and Scion FR-S.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers in the market for an affordable sports car will want to take a close look at the 2017 Subaru BRZ.
