TORRANCE, California Toyota was named as the best automotive brand in the world for the 11th straight year by Interbrand's ranking of the 100 most valuable brands.

Toyota said its playful ad campaigns, including a new one for the redesigned 2015 Toyota Camry and new fuel cell vehicle, are "just a few of the reasons" for retaining the top spot.

Toyota is the 8th most valuable global brand, behind such giants as Apple, Google and Coca-Cola, the report said. Toyota moved up from No. 10 in the 2013 rankings, with its brand value increasing by 20 percent to $42.4 billion, the highest Toyota has achieved.

Mercedes-Benz took the No. 10 spot in the rankings, followed by BMW at No. 11. Honda held its No. 20 ranking for the second straight year and Ford rose three places from 39 to 42.

The Interbrand study was released on Thursday. It bases the rankings on the brands' financial performance and influence on customer choice, among other things.
