Best Year-End New Car Deals for 2017

Get Them Before They're Gone

Edmunds research has shown that December is one of the best times to buy a car. This month historically has the highest discounts off the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) alone.

Carmakers want to spur sales so they can tout their vehicles as best-sellers, while dealerships want to clear out the remaining outgoing models and hit their year-end sales targets. To achieve these goals, carmakers place generous incentives on the cars and dealers cut the prices to make them even more enticing.

This December will be notable for its deals on sedans, which are not nearly as popular as SUVs. There will also be more 2017 models to choose from than in years past thanks to inventories that are at unusually high levels. The push to clear out these cars will be far more aggressive, and this is where the best deals will be.

To help you shop, here is a collection of deals on outgoing 2017s that are worth your consideration. We've chosen these vehicles based on the availability of 2017 models, quality of discounts and Edmunds editors' recommendations. Though sedans will offer the greater discounts, they might not work for your lifestyle. Therefore, we've included a few trucks and SUVs in our list.

Keep in mind that the MSRP, discounts, incentives and rebates may vary by region. Also, these discounts might not apply to every trim level within a model line. Check the Edmunds Incentives and Rebates page to see all the rebates for which you may qualify.

A note for those who want the latest and greatest: If you're looking for a 2018 model, the deals might not be as impressive. End-of-year deals are generally for those who favor landing a bargain over having a model with the newest features.

Best Year-End Deals

End-of-Year Deal: Depending on trim level and region, we are seeing discounts in the $8,400 range.
Our Editors Say: If you're interested in old-school horsepower, Ford has you covered with the new Fusion V6 Sport trim. It boasts a turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 capable of cranking out 325 horsepower and an eye-popping 380 pound-feet of torque. If those specs sound familiar, that's because the engine's similar to the one found in the Ford F-150.

Starting Price: Around $32,000

Best Year-End Deals

End-of-Year Deal: Depending on trim level and region, we are seeing discounts in the $10,800 range.
Our Editors Say: Wide doors, a tall door opening, narrow side sills and unobtrusive seat bolsters make it easy to get into and out of the Kia Cadenza's front seats. A gently sloping roofline makes for similarly easy access for the back row. Materials quality is particularly impressive.

2017 Nissan Maxima

Best Year-End Deals

Best Year-End Deals

Our Editors Say: We recommend the Nissan Rogue's midrange SV trim with the optional Premium package. It adds the surround-view camera system and features such as navigation and a hands-free liftgate. As an added bonus, you get some of the SL trim's more notable features without the larger wheels that could detract from the ride quality on this popular compact SUV.

Midsize SUVs

2017 Hyundai Santa Fe
Starting Price: Around $30,800

Best Year-End Deals
