PALO ALTO, California Tesla Motors opened its 100th Supercharger station in late April, with the promise of more to come.

"We're rolling out new Superchargers as fast as we can, which for Model S owners means that gas stops are fast becoming a fading memory," the company said in a blog post.

It added: "By the end of next year, we'll have 98 percent of the U.S. population covered."

The 100th station is located in Hamilton, New Jersey.

The electric-car maker has set up the Supercharger stations so Model S owners can recharge their vehicles for free. The stations also eliminate the hassle of long-distance travel in the EV.
