About six months ago, the Tonkin Family of Dealerships started putting stuffed bears in the car seats of guests who stopped by the dealership for service, parts or to purchase a car, Tonkin Gresham Honda Service Advisor Mark Cawthorn told Edmunds.
"We pass them out daily to our young visitors with their parents' permission," Cawthorn said. "The bears definitely put a smile on everybody's faces."
Cawthorn said that while he has yet to have someone come in only for the bear, they are a popular giveaway.
"There are about 25 bears in a box and we had another 10 boxes delivered," he said. "It's a generous gesture by the Tonkins."
While he's unsure if it will help sell cars, he believes the teddy bears demonstrate the dealership group's friendly nature.
"I think it helps make customers want to return here because we treat people like family," he said.
