AMARILLO, Texas — When Street Volkswagen heard the theme of West Texas A&M University's Homecoming was "Peace, Love and Buffs," it quickly signed on as presenting sponsor for the September 26 event, along with its sister store Street Toyota-Scion.
"The Volkswagen Beetle is an icon of the peace era in the 1960s, so it's a natural fit," David Meraz, the dealership's marketing and public-relations manager, told Edmunds.
The dealers' names are all over the college's Web site and promotional materials and its 2015 Volkswagen Eos and Beetle convertibles will transport the homecoming court and VIPs, including the mayor and president of the university.
Campus visitors also will see a car show, with other models parked throughout campus.
Street VW employees were on campus Monday for its Paint Your Ride event, where students left flyers on their dashboards if they wanted their windows decorated with glass chalk paint.
"It's another fun way we like to give back to our community," Meraz said.
Edmunds says: The Love Bug helps these dealerships forge stronger community ties.
