Stevens Ford Lincoln Stuffs F-150 for Thanksgiving

MILFORD, Connecticut — Thanksgiving in New England will be nicer for some needy members of the community, thanks to Stevens Ford Lincoln.

The dealer is collecting donations and will fill the beds of a few Ford F-150 pickup trucks with Thanksgiving meal ingredients this weekend. The event is called Fill a Ford.

And that?s not all. The dealer has joined with the local Lions Club to put together 25 individual Thanksgiving dinner baskets, with Stevens Auto Group donating the turkeys. Members of the parts department will personally deliver the baskets to needy families this year, Susan O?Rourke of Stevens Ford Lincoln told Edmunds.

Stevens Ford Lincoln and radio station WEBE 108 will run a live broadcast inside and outside the dealership on Saturday, November 22.

O?Rourke said the dealer expects the bulk of its food donations to come on that day.

?Everyone gets paid on Thursday and Friday,? she said, ?and it gets crazy on Saturday. Generally we?ll do at least two pickup trucks full.?

Employees plan to have the dealership decorated for the holiday season in time to add a festive feeling to the Fill a Ford event on Saturday.

?We have a very large showroom with a lot of plate glass,? she said. ?The truck will be very visible.?

Operations manager Kristen Schuble said employees have also ?put up fliers all over Milford? to build interest.

The dealer chose the Bridgeport Rescue Mission, which helps homeless people, as the recipient of donations from Fill a Ford this year.

The auto dealer is in its third generation under Stevens family ownership. Among its other charitable works, O?Rourke said, is a Cars for the Cure auto show, which raised $5,000 for the Susan G. Komen breast cancer charity last month.

And then there are the bicycles, which Stevens Auto Group donates in a Christmas toy drive along with area firefighters.

?Every department competes to see who?s going to donate the most,? O?Rourke said. ?Last year, we donated 16 bicycles.?

Edmunds says: This dealer is giving thanks for 60 years of success in the local community in a very practical and visible way.
