Santa Monica Fiat Claims Title of Number One Fiat Dealer in U.S.

Just the Facts:
  • Santa Monica Fiat said it has been named the number one Fiat dealer in the U.S. in 2013.
  • Although it's only been open since May of 2012, Santa Monica Fiat sold 813 new cars during 2013.
  • Two new vehicles that contributed to the dealership's success are the 2014 Fiat 500e and the 2014 Fiat 500L.

SANTA MONICA, California — Santa Monica Fiat has laid claim to a prestigious title: The number one Fiat dealer in the U.S. in 2013.

Although it's one of the country's newest Fiat stores, having opened in May of 2012, the dealership earned its number one rating by selling what it calls a record 813 new cars in 2013.That's the most cars sold by any Fiat dealer since the brand returned to the U.S. in 2011 after a 27-year absence, the dealership said in an announcement on Tuesday.

"We're so proud of the entire team here," said Santa Monica Fiat General Manager Jon Schwartz, in a statement. "To have come this far in such a short time is a huge achievement."

It was a close race, though. Santa Monica Fiat nosed out its nearest competitor by fewer than 20 units.

The dealership attributes its success, in part, to two new vehicles. One is the 2014 Fiat 500e, an electric model sold only in California, a state that has proven quicker than most in its adoption of EVs. This hatchback's 87-mile range and relatively quick four-hour charging make it a practical eco-choice at $32,600, including an $800 destination charge.

The second contributing factor was the 2014 Fiat 500L, whose larger footprint and roomier interior opened up Fiat ownership to an entirely new buyer demographic, families and other seeking more space. The 2014 Fiat 500L is priced at $19,995, including an $800 destination charge.

Not resting on its laurels, Santa Monica Fiat intends to up the ante for 2014. Said General Sales Manager Jason Frieder: "Obviously we're going to try and defend our number one title, but I really want to beat last year's numbers."

Edmunds says: Congratulations to Santa Monica Fiat.
