- What's new: Stellantis is delaying the start of production for its Ram 1500 Rev and Jeep Grand Wagoneer plug-in hybrid models, according to Automotive News.
- Why it matters: The Ram Rev — originally named Ramcharger — was originally expected to arrive in late 2025. Ram previously confirmed it would no longer develop a fully electric version of its full-size truck.
- Edmunds says: With an expected starting price of $70,000 to $75,000, the Ram Rev plug-in hybrid could be a compelling option for pickup truck buyers — if it ever actually goes on sale.
Are We Ever Going to See the Ram Rev Plug-in Hybrid?
Stellantis is reportedly delaying both the Ram Rev and Jeep Grand Wagoneer plug-in hybrid models
Ram has delayed the launch of its Rev plug-in hybrid truck once again, according to a new report from Automotive News. The Rev — which was originally called the Ramcharger — was first announced in late 2023 and expected to be on sale in the second half of 2025. In fact, the plug-in hybrid model was supposed to arrive after the launch of Ram's fully electric truck — the original Rev — which was subsequently axed.
According to the AN report, the Ram 1500 Rev plug-in hybrid will now arrive in mid-April. A Ram spokesperson did not immediately respond to our request for comment.
The Ram 1500 Rev is what's known as an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV). A large battery pack provides substantial electric-only driving range, and an onboard gas engine acts as a generator to keep the battery topped up. When Ram originally announced the Ramcharger, we were told to expect a 690-mile combined driving range, with an electric charging rate of 145 kW.
Stellantis — the parent company that owns Ram — is also reportedly delaying another plug-in hybrid model, according to AN. The updated Jeep Grand Wagoneer is supposed to use an EREV powertrain similar to the Ram's, and while production was supposed to start earlier this year, it's apparently been pushed back to November. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer hybrid is scheduled to go on sale in early 2027. Well, in theory.
