CALHOUN, Georgia — The Prater Ford dealership here is supporting Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls, by asking community members to stop by before August 31 and donate new socks and shoes to help the needy in the U.S. and worldwide.
The items are being collected in the showroom inside the bed of a 2015 Ford F-150 pickup.
"We hope to fill two F-150s, not just one pickup truck," Jimmy Prater, president of the dealership, told Edmunds.
Prater is hoping to top last year's collection of 189 pairs of shoes and 284 pairs of socks.
While the goal of the shoe drive is to help outfit orphans and vulnerable children, Prater believes choosing a quality charity to support can only help the dealership's bottom line.
"It does bring people into the dealership," he said.
It also helps Prater Ford's reputation as a community partner.
"It's a healthy way to stand out in the community, and everyone wants to help a child who doesn't have any shoes," he said.
Edmunds says: Dealerships, like this one, step up when it comes to community outreach.
