OnStar RemoteLink Mobile App Gets Upgrade

DETROIT GM announced that its OnStar RemoteLink mobile app has been updated with more information that used to be available only by phone or through the OnStar Web site.

The latest update is only rolling out on Android and iOS at this point. Updates for Windows Phone and Blackberry devices will debut in the coming weeks, GM said.

The app's improvements include a more intuitive design.

New features include Vehicle Locate, which enables the user to pinpoint the vehicle's location on a map. Users can also manage in-vehicle Wi-Fi settings, check payment information and data consumption.

The remote features of the app also include the ability to remotely start-stop an engine with factory-installed remote start, lock and unlock automatic door locks and activate the horn and lights.

Customers who demand remote access to information should appreciate the upgrade.

"The updated app will provide customers with more information, including access to OnStar account details previously only available by phone or through OnStar.com," said GM in a statement on Monday. "Consumers are increasingly relying on mobile devices to manage banking and shopping needs, and RemoteLink now offers access to key information and settings through a smartphone interface."

Owners of Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles with OnStar 4G LTE will also be able to view data consumption and see how much data is left on a particular plan with the upgrade.

The app experienced record-setting use in December 2014, with nearly 7 million total requests.

Edmunds says: This popular app takes its cues from mobile apps used for banking and shopping, something that should please users.
