LONDON — A new Rush international trailer released on Monday highlights the rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda — and the horrifying crash that disfigured Lauda.

Lauda was administered the last rites by a priest after the fiery accident at the Nurburgring track in August 1976. The Austrian three-time world champion recovered within weeks of the crash despite severe burns and raced the rest of the season.

"The closer you are to death, the more alive you feel," a voice intones over footage of the crash in the new trailer.

The film is the true story of the two racers set against the backdrop of what the filmmakers call the golden age of Formula 1 racing.

"Rush follows the two drivers as they push themselves to the breaking point of physical and psychological endurance," said an accompanying text.

Rush is directed by Ron Howard and due for a North American release later this year.

Edmunds says: The dramatic trailer previews what looks like an amazing movie.
