AUBURN HILLS, Michigan — The Mopar '14 Dodge Challenger sold out in just the first day after being made available to dealers, Chrysler announced on Wednesday.

"With only 100 built, the Mopar '14 Challenger is the rarest limited-production Dodge Challenger offered to date," said the company in a statement.

Mopar is Chrysler's customization arm.

The Mopar '14 Dodge Challenger starts at $40,490, including a $995 destination charge. The price can escalate with the addition of such touches as Mopar Blue stripe options.

In comparison, a base 2014 Dodge Challenger SXT starts at $27,290, including shipping.

"The very high demand for the Mopar '14 Challenger spotlights the success of our
limited-edition, Mopar-modified vehicles and also clearly demonstrates the passion our customers have for personalizing their rides," said Pietro Gorlier, president and CEO of Mopar, in a statement.

Unique touches on the car include a Satin Black Shaker hood scoop, Black Vapor grille surround and serialized instrument panel plaque.

The Mopar '14 Dodge Challenger competes with high-end versions of the 2014 Chevrolet Impala, Chrysler 300, Ford Taurus and Hyundai Genesis.

Edmunds says: Car buyers can still have their Dodge Challenger personalized in a similar way to the sold-out version with the help of their local dealership.
