IRVINE, California — The Mazda CX-3, a new compact crossover set to take on the Nissan Juke, Kia Soul and Chevrolet Trax, will debut next month at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show.

It is expected to arrive at Mazda dealerships next year.

A single teaser sketch of the CX-3 shows a sleek vehicle with a long hood, prominent grille and raked windshield.

Mazda has not announced specific launch timing, pricing or technical specifications.

"Mazda CX-3 is the fifth vehicle in Mazda's lineup of new-generation products that feature the full range of Skyactiv Technology and Kodo — Soul of Motion design," said Mazda in a statement late Monday.

The CX-3 joins the automaker's growing crossover lineup, which includes the Mazda CX-5 and Mazda CX-9.

Compact SUVs are the hottest-selling vehicles in the market now and the No. 1 segment for women buyers, according to a Key Insights report from Edmunds.

In addition to the CX-3, the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show will also host the world premiere of the updated 2016 Mazda 6 and Mazda CX-5.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers have a long list of subcompact crossovers to consider right now and the new Mazda CX-3 is shaping up as another intriguing choice.
