BROOKLYN PARK, Minnesota — Lupient Kia has leveraged the popular hamster theme in Kia commercials by creating its own mascot named Hamilton.
Other Kia dealers may display cardboard cutouts of the wildly popular hamsters, but Lupient Kia has Hamilton, a human in a business suit with a hamster head.
Recently, Hamilton made a personal appearance at the Minnesota State Fair, and the dealer invited people to tag their photos on Facebook with the #WheresHamilton hashtag. The rodent is proving to be a fabulous selling tool at the corporate and dealership level.
"Ready, set, selfie!" said the dealer on its Facebook page. The person who took the photo with the most Likes received a free oil change and car wash, courtesy of this social-media-savvy dealer.
Lupient Kia also filmed its own commercial in which Hamilton plays a new salesman who goes on a training drive of the 2015 Kia Optima to learn the ropes. Hamilton gets behind the wheel, leading to an amusing run-in with a police officer.
This is a good time for a promo featuring the Kia hamsters. Kia has just rolled out advertising for the 2015 Soul EV electric car starring a glamorous female hamster wearing a black bodysuit and boots.
Lupient Kia is located in the northern suburbs of Minneapolis/St. Paul, part of the five-dealership, Lupient Automotive Group. The 44-year-old dealership group also has new-car dealerships for Infiniti, Buick-GMC, Chevrolet and Nissan, along with used-car "bargain lots" in three locations.
Edmunds says: The smart dealer, like this one, takes the corporate message and runs with it.
