DEARBORN, Michigan — Select Lincoln dealerships in the U.S. will feature a signature scent dubbed "Essence of Lincoln."

Pompano Lincoln in Pompano Beach, Florida has been testing the fragrance for a year with very "positive" results, according to the automaker.

"Essence of Lincoln is a subtle, yet powerful tool for our dealers to use to help clients make an emotional connection to their store and the Lincoln brand," said Dennis Carnevale, Lincoln experience training manager, in a statement on Thursday.

Some dealers will spritz the scent through the showroom's ventilation system, while others will make scent cards available to customers.

The fragrance was created by a master perfumer and features top notes of green tea with undertones of jasmine and tonka, which is said to "create a relaxing atmosphere," according to the automaker.

Other automakers, including Nissan and Subaru have dabbled in scents.

In late 2013, Nissan's European arm created a fragrance to promote the electric Nissan Leaf.

The Leaf scent was said to evoke the feeling of a "zero-emissions future."

Several years ago, Subaru spritzed a pine scent around its display at the Detroit auto show to evoke an outdoorsy feeling as it pitched its all-wheel-drive products.

Some of the most brilliant marketing minds in the world have understood the power of perfume. Coco Chanel, the legendary fashion designer and creator of the iconic scent Chanel No 5, wanted to stop female shoppers in their tracks with the fragrance, according to biographers.

Edmunds says: Lincoln showrooms may have that sweet smell of success, thanks to a new aroma.
