- The Infiniti Q80 Inspiration four-door fastback concept set for the 2014 Paris Auto Show signals the future design direction for Nissan's upscale brand.
- The Q80 Inspiration targets the Audi A7, BMW 650i Gran Coupe and Porsche Panamera.
- The concept "was born to disrupt the premium sedan category," according to Infiniti.
No word yet on when a production version of the concept will arrive at dealerships.
"The Q80 Inspiration four-door fastback is to be taken as clear intent to have an entry into the newly defined premium fastback segment," the company said in a statement.
Details include an "advanced adaptive suspension," with a light chassis that combines "with the acoustic glass all around and additional sound deadening to promise a driving and ride experience among the very best," Infiniti said.
The concept, which features an eco-friendly hybrid powertrain, also hints at future Infiniti powertrains.
The Q80 Inspiration is equipped with a 550-horsepower twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine and hybrid-electric powertrain.
"The new engine offers a precursor to a family of engines that will be introduced to the Infiniti portfolio within the next two years," Infiniti said.
A so-called "smart" drivetrain allows the concept to be switched from rear-wheel drive to all-wheel drive as conditions dictate.
The concept rides on a 122.2-inch wheelbase that is about 2 inches longer than the extended-wheelbase version of the 2015 Infiniti Q70 sedan, the brand's current flagship.
The concept is also lower and wider than the Q70.
Edmunds says: Infiniti has ambitious plans for the premium sedan market, something that car shoppers may want to keep in mind as they make their future plans.
