Gentilini Motors Goes Fishing for Car Shoppers

Just the Facts:
  • Gentilini Motors will give away a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup truck as one of the prizes in The Mid Atlantic $500,000 Fishing Tournament in Cape May, New Jersey.
  • The truck is a specially designed Rocky Ridge model and goes to the fisherman who breaks a specific New Jersey state fishing record.
  • Gentilini is also giving a separate $10,000 cash prize called the Gentilini Challenge. Even non-fishermen can win this prize.

WOODBINE, New Jersey Gentilini Motors has sweetened the pot of the upcoming Mid Atlantic $500,000 Fishing Tournament by offering a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Rocky Ridge pickup truck as one of the prizes. The tournament is held in nearby Cape May, New Jersey, from August 17-22.

Gentilini Motors, a Ford dealer since 1955, added Chevrolet to its product lineup in 2008 and became an exclusive Rocky Ridge off-road conversion truck dealer three years ago.

"We've sponsored this tournament for about ten years now. The owner of the dealership is a fisherman, and he fishes in the tournament," Gentilini Motors Marketing Director Frank Olivier told Edmunds.

Entrants in the competition have been known to bring in fish as large as 240-pound tunas or 400-pound blue marlins. To win the Silverado, the contestant must beat the state record for a white marlin (currently at 137 pounds).

"We tried to give away a truck last year," Olivier told Edmunds, "but nobody beat that record."

Gentilini Motors holds the exclusive South Jersey franchise for the Rocky Ridge off-road truck conversion brand. The off-road converter creates custom modification and Gentilini also has several Rocky Ridge trucks in stock.

Whether or not the truck goes home with a lucky fisherman, Gentilini Motors will be an exhibiting sponsor and a presence at the tournament. In addition to the truck, the dealer will be giving away $10,000 during the wildly popular evening activities that take place each night of the tournament. Some 700 contestants and spectators have dinner and socialize in a tent big enough to accommodate 1,000 people, Olivier said.

"We will have a 700-gallon tank with plastic fish that float. We'll select 10 contestants a night to try to fish out the one that wins the $10,000 prize," Olivier said.

Edmunds says: Off-roading fishermen and Chevy truck fans at the Jersey shore are hoping the white marlin are biting this year.
