Fowler Volkswagen Commissions Artists To Decorate Its New Dealership Building

NORMAN, Oklahoma Fowler Volkswagen has created an art gallery within its new 48,000-square-foot building.

The dealership commissioned or purchased original artwork — many with a Volkswagen theme — from 40 Oklahoma artists to decorate the facility, providing customers and employees alike with a bright, creative environment, Kristen Vails, director of community outreach for Fowler Holding Company, told Edmunds.

"The Fowler family is passionate about art and they believe art is valuable for the community, and it improves the quality of life and the economics of the area," Vails said.

The collection includes three murals, two wall sculptures, seven works on Volkswagen parts, 20 two-dimensional works and a 156-foot mural in the service bay by 10 graffiti artists.

"It's a good way to get people into the dealership," Vails said.

To get residents used to the idea of visiting the dealership to view the work, she hosts guided tours several times a week.

"Some have mentioned they were nervous to walk in, so we thought these formal tours would encourage them to come see the work," she said.

The art's presence has led to at least one car sale.

"We sold a car the night of the opening reception, which had 400 people attending," Vails said. "It was to one of the artists."

Edmunds says: Das Art.
