EAST GREENWICH, Rhode Island — Flood Ford of East Greenwich is giving away an iPad each week in April to encourage shoppers to negotiate a car deal online and to grow its social-media presence.
Visitors to its Web site and Facebook page may click an "Exchangeathon" link, entering themselves in the iPad giveaway. The link asks if they want to exchange their vehicle without visiting the showroom.
It takes potential customers through a four-question prompt that includes filling out the year, make, model, payoff, monthly payment of their current ride and car they desire.
Sales Manager Matt Ward is at the dealership crunching the numbers and working on the deal, seeing if the exchange value is there and the customer's expectations are met, he told Edmunds.
"The way the industry is going, this seemed like a good way to capture some of today's customers who prefer working a deal online or through texting," Ward said.
Visitors may also like the dealership's Facebook page to enter again for the iPad.
In a little over a month, the giveaway has led to 300 "Likes" and reached more than 200,000 viewers.
"This is a way to engage a potential customer," Ward said.
Ward, who took over managing the Facebook account in March, also finds it's an easy way for him to monitor what customers are experiencing at the dealership.
Edmunds says: Harnessing today's technological tools is making a difference in dealmaking and customer satisfaction for this dealership.
