NANTUCKET, Massachusetts— Don Allen Auto Center hopes to climb atop the leader board with a new fundraiser that drops 1,500 golf balls from a net-toting helicopter to help the Nantucket Boys and Girls Club.
The dealership, which offers Ford, Jeep, Chrysler, Jeep and Ram brands, is selling golf balls for $25 each to include in the Golf Ball Drop, a new auxiliary event of the Boys and Girls Club's 23rd Annual Sam Sylvia Pro-Am Golf Tournament on June 13.
The helicopter will hover over a set pin and release the balls. The person assigned the ball that rolls closest to the pin will win $5,000 with the second closest pocketing $1,000.
"We were looking to spice up the event, so we added the ball drop," said Erik Evens, president of Don Allen Auto Center. "It will be streamed live on (Nantucket's local) GenoTV, so they need not be present to know they won."
Evens told Edmunds that the ball drop has brought people into the showroom, but that isn't really the point.
"I do think hosting something like this helps the dealership, but we are a philanthropic store and we like to support the community," Evens said.
Edmunds says: A dealership hopes having a ball will bring new customers into a showroom while helping a good cause.
