FRANKFURT, Germany — Daimler is boosting production at a plant in Hungary that makes the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class in order to meet customer demand worldwide.

"Our production has hardly kept up with the dynamic sales development of our compacts," said CEO Dieter Zetsche in a statement on Wednesday. "This allows us to serve the wishes of our customers around the world even better and timelier."

The German automaker said its compact car plants are ready to "operate at full steam."

The company sold 4,404 CLA-Class cars here through February, according to its March sales report.

The Mercedes-Benz Kecskemet plant will add a third extra shift in May. The plant makes the B-Class and CLA-Class.

Edmunds says: Dealer supplies of the CLA-Class are expected to remain tight through the spring, but should become more plentiful this summer.
