Buick is now rolling out Android Auto compatibility via a free software update to owners of the 2016 Buick Regal and Buick LaCrosse with an 8-inch IntelliLink system. The update is available now only through Buick dealers.
Earlier, Buick announced it will offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility in the 2016 LaCrosse and Regal, with Apple CarPlay included as standard equipment.
GMC dealers are also offering a free Android Auto software update to owners of 2016 GMC Canyon, Sierra and Yukon models equipped with the 8-inch IntelliLink system. The upgrade is available now and joins Apple CarPlay, which rolled out last year.
GMC will offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility on the all-new 2017 GMC Acadia when it debuts in showrooms this spring.
Both CarPlay and Android Auto place many smartphone features on a vehicle's in-dash display, allowing users to talk on the phone, send and receive messages, control music functions and access a variety of apps, all from the touchscreen or by voice.
Models eligible for the update include the 2016 Malibu (except Limited), Camaro, Camaro Convertible, Colorado, Silverado, Silverado HD, Impala, Volt, Corvette, Corvette Convertible, Tahoe and Suburban.
Edmunds says: It's time to make a service appointment with your dealer if you want to get in on this free update.
