LAKE COMO, Italy — The wraps have come off the BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe, which may herald a future BMW 8 Series.

BMW is still insisting that the four-seater is a "one-off." But the collaboration between the automaker and the design house has fueled rumors of an even larger, more luxurious super coupe in the works for BMW.

The BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe debuted at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este 2013, along with a BMW Concept Ninety motorcycle.

"The BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe is a one-off and represents the exclusive interpretation of a luxurious BMW coupe as seen through the eyes of Pininfarina," said BMW in a statement.

The car features a twin-turbo, 6.0-liter V12 engine. BMW notes that it has "typical BMW proportions," including a long wheelbase, stretched hood and set-back greenhouse. Other details include 21-inch wheels and matte-sheen aluminum touches on the exterior.

The cabin gets leather and kauri wood said to be "aged more than 48,000 years," according to BMW.

The BMW Concept Ninety, which also debuts at this weekend's event in Italy, is created in partnership with custom bike company Roland Sands Design and honors the BMW R 90 S.

Edmunds says: We get a concrete look at a BMW V12 flagship coupe — but whether it's just a fantasy at this point is anybody's guess.
