STOCKTON, California Big Valley Ford, a California dealership, launched a toy 2015 Ford Mustang into space to celebrate the pony car's 50th anniversary.

The dealership team tied a high-altitude weather balloon and a camera to the car.

Amazingly, the team recovered the car six hours after launch and the dealership began touting the stunt on its Facebook page. The camera was still running.

The YouTube video of the stunt hasn't exactly gone viral, with a little more than 78,000 views as of Wednesday morning. But the promotional event is noteworthy because it is part of a recent spate of 2015 Mustang stunts, including one sponsored by the company that put a 2015 Mustang convertible on the roof of the Empire State Building.

On a more high-brow level, Ford this week said a U.K.-based artist has created a limited-edition 1965 Ford Mustang fastback sculpture to celebrate 50 years of the iconic sports car. Only 500 individual works will be produced, each cast in solid aluminum and signed by the artist.

Edmunds says: The 2015 Ford Mustang gets the creative juices flowing from dealerships to artists' studios.
