HERNDON, Virginia Audi and its wireless partner AT&T announced pricing for the in-vehicle 4G LTE connectivity service that launches in the 2015 Audi A3 sedan.

All A3 sedans equipped with Audi connect will get a free six-month trial period.

Then consumers will pay $99 a month for a six-month plan or $499 for 30 months.

Audi said it plans to roll out 4G LTE capability across its entire lineup as new or refreshed models come to market.

This summer Audi will become the first automaker to offer a Mobile Share data plan option to AT&T wireless customers who would like to add their vehicle to their existing Mobile Share plan. However, consumers cannot roll this into their car payments.

Consumers will get the quick connection speed offered by 4G and be able to create wireless hotspots inside their vehicles for multiple handheld devices.

"Having the choice of two data plans gives the consumer the opportunity to choose a contract that works best for their lifestyle and allows them to maintain connectivity in the vehicle for an extended period of time," said Scott Keogh, Audi of America president, in a statement on Monday.

Audi is rushing to be the first automaker with 4G connectivity. General Motors said earlier that the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and the 2015 Chevrolet Volt are among several GM vehicles to come optionally equipped with OnStar 4G LTE.

OnStar is being positioned as a provider of high-speed connectivity in vehicles.

Other Chevrolet vehicles to get the new OnStar option include the 2015 Chevrolet Impala and Malibu, followed by the Equinox, Silverado, Silverado HD, Spark and Spark EV.

Edmunds says: Auto buyers are entering a new digital age and now get a better idea of what 4G connectivity will add to the cost of vehicle ownership.
