2027 Nissan Frontier Sport Edition Brings Pro-4X Styling for Less Money
The new SV package gives the Frontier trail-friendly hardware and rugged looks without stepping into more expensive Pro-4X territory
If you like the Nissan Frontier Pro-4X but don't need its full off-road setup, the 2027 Frontier Sport Edition may be the more practical choice. The new package gives the SV grade a tougher look and a few useful trail-minded upgrades, including all-terrain tires and added skid plate protection.
By definition, the Sport Edition should be aimed at drivers who spend most of their time on pavement but still want a truck that feels ready for dirt roads, campsites or weekend projects. Pricing has not been announced, but Nissan says the entire 2027 Frontier range will reach dealerships later this summer. We should know how much the Sport Edition costs in the coming months.
What the Sport Edition adds
The Sport Edition starts with black 17-inch wheels wrapped in 265/70R17 Hankook Dynapro all-terrain tires. For people who occasionally drive on dirt roads, gravel paths or light trails, those tires are the most meaningful upgrade. They are designed to provide more grip away from pavement than typical street-focused tires, though they can sometimes add road noise on the highway.
Nissan also adds an aluminum skid plate, which helps protect parts under the front of the truck from rocks, ruts and other trail hazards. LED foglights and front accent lighting are included as well.
Visually, the Sport Edition borrows from the Frontier's Pro-X and Pro-4X trims. It gets a black lower front fascia, black grille, black mirror caps, and Sport badges on the bed and tailgate. Inside, Nissan uses black upholstery with yellow contrast stitching, a small touch that gives the cabin more personality without changing the basic layout.
How it fits in the Frontier lineup
The 2027 Frontier lineup continues with S, SV, Pro-X and Pro-4X grades. Depending on the trim, buyers can choose King Cab or crew-cab body styles and a 5- or 6-foot bed. Every 2027 Frontier uses a 3.8-liter V6 engine rated at 310 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque. Maximum towing capacity is 7,150 pounds, and trailer sway control is standard on SV and Pro grades.
The Frontier also includes a solid list of standard driver assist features, including blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, rear parking sensors, high-beam assist and adaptive cruise control. An 8-inch touchscreen is standard, while SV and Pro models offer a larger 12.3-inch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
We have previously found the Frontier's smooth V6 and comfortable ride to be strengths, though some newer midsize trucks feel more modern inside. The Sport Edition does not rewrite that story, but it gives Frontier shoppers a more affordable path to off-road style and light trail capability.
