The Lexus GX Rides Higher, Costs More for 2025

The Lexus GX gets a pair of updates for 2025, but they do little to justify pricing increases

  • The Lexus GX Overtrail and Overtrail+ gain an inch of ground clearance for 2025.
  • A tilt-and-telescoping power steering wheel is now standard on Premium and Overtrail trims.
  • A steep $3,000+ price hike hits the Overtrail trims.

For 2025, Lexus raised the price of its popular GX 550 SUV by up to $3,680. This sizable price increase is for the off-road-oriented Overtrail trim, which now starts at $72,930. The Overtrail+ trim gets a similar $3,000-plus price hike. The rest of the lineup sees minor pricing adjustments of a few hundred dollars, though the base Premium trim gets a price bump of $1,035. Check the list below for the new prices in juxtaposition to last year.

  • Premium: $65,285 ($64,250 in 2024)
  • Premium+: $69,750 ($69,250 in 2024)
  • Luxury: $77,750 ($77,250 in 2024)
  • Luxury+: $81,750 ($81,250 in 2024)
  • Overtrail: $72,930 ($69,250 in 2024)
  • Overtrail+: $80,395 ($77,250 in 2024)

The significant price change to Overtrail models is a result of a newly standard 1-inch increase in ground clearance. Thanks to the new ride height, the ‘25 GX 550’s clearance rises to 9.8 inches. This aside, the only other update for 2025 to the GX is a newly standard powered tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel for all trims. Previously, this feature was optional on the GX 550 Premium and Overtrail.

We’re big fans of the GX, especially when it comes to the SUV’s standout boxy styling and the off-road capability brought to the luxury SUV by the Overtrail trims. However, customers must now pay $3,000 more, at minimum, to access this capability, and given the minimal gain in off-road performance a single inch of ground clearance is likely to net, this doesn't strike us as a great value. More than that, the GX’s somewhat small third-row seats and limited cargo space (at least compared to competitors like the Land Rover Defender and Jeep Grand Cherokee) make the value proposition tougher to swallow for 2025.
