TORRANCE, California — The 2017 Toyota Corolla compact sedan will be available at Toyota dealerships in early September, starting at $19,365, including an $865 destination charge.

The base price is for a 2017 Corolla L with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). It reflects a $600 increase over the base 2016 Corolla.

The top-of-the-line 2017 Corolla XSE with a CVT is priced at $23,545, including destination fees.

The base engine is a 1.8-liter inline four-cylinder rated at 132 horsepower.

Key changes to the 2017 Corolla include revised styling that puts the emphasis on sportiness, redesigned wheels and a standard rearview camera.

The Toyota Safety Sense P system includes a standard pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning with steering assist, dynamic radar cruise control and automatic high beams.

The cabin features upgraded fabric and a redesigned climate control panel.

Key Corolla rivals include the Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra and Mazda 3.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers seeking an inexpensive, fuel-efficient and reliable small car will want to check out the refreshed 2017 Toyota Corolla.
