2017 Nissan GT-R Teased Ahead of 2016 New York Auto Show

NASHVILLE, Tennessee Nissan on Wednesday released a teaser image of the 2017 Nissan GT-R coupe ahead of a world debut at the 2016 New York Auto Show.

"Today, Nissan sent to media a special "teaser" regarding the company's presence at the 2016 New York International Auto Show, which will commence on Wednesday, March 23," the company said in a statement.

A single image shows a blacked-out rear end with illuminated taillights. The proportions look similar to the current GT-R.

Pricing, launch timing or technical specifications were not disclosed. But the 2017 GT-R is expected to arrive at Nissan dealerships later this year.

Key competitors include the Audi R8, BMW M6, Chevrolet Corvette and Porsche 911.

The GT-R is a favorite of performance-oriented car shoppers because it offers an Olympian powertrain for a fraction of the price of most supercars.

The 2016 GT-R is on sale now, featuring a few upgrades.

The 2016 GT-R develops an additional 5 horsepower in non-Nismo versions thanks to electronic refinements. In Premium trim, 20-spoke wheels replace the previous 10-spoke design. A 45th Anniversary Gold Edition is added to the lineup to celebrate 45 years of worldwide GT-R production.

Edmunds says: This promises to be one of the most anticipated debuts in the Big Apple.
