2017 Lincoln Continental Features Approach Detection Technology

DEARBORN, Michigan — The 2017 Lincoln Continental luxury sedan features Approach Detection Technology, a lighting system designed to give owners a feeling of exclusivity even from outside the vehicle.

Lincoln dealers are taking orders now for the 2017 Continental, which arrives at showrooms in the fall.

The Premiere model will have approach detection as a standard item.

When the driver gets within eight feet of the car, exterior puddle lights display a large Lincoln logo on the ground and the door handles glow in a hue that complements the exterior color of the vehicle.

Uplevel Select, Reserve and Black Label models of the Continental have sequential exterior lighting and ambient interior lighting.

Lincoln said the Approach Detection technology is similar to the ?Continental greeting you with a warm smile.?

The technology first rolled out on the 2015 Lincoln MKC crossover.

The highly anticipated Continental takes aim at the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, Cadillac CTS and CT6, as well as the Lexus GS 350 and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

Edmunds says: This feature gives luxury shoppers a good reason to take the Continental for a nighttime test drive.
