2017 Lexus IS Teased, Bound for Showrooms in Late Fall

TORRANCE, California — The 2017 Lexus IS midsize luxury sedan will debut at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show and go on sale at U.S. Lexus dealerships in late fall.

A single teaser image of the 2017 IS hints at new headlights, front fascia and hood.

The redesign focuses on revamped styling and will highlight "enhanced visual impact," the company said.

"The upcoming new model will bring exciting breakthroughs based on the Lexus signature L-finesse design philosophy," Lexus said in a statement.

Pricing will be announced closer to the launch date.

The powertrains will be carryover. The 2016 IS debuted with a three-model strategy and three engine alternatives for shoppers. The three models are the 2016 IS 200t, IS 300 AWD and IS 350. The IS 250 and IS 250 AWD were discontinued.

The new IS 200t features a 241-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine linked to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Buyers can also opt for a 255-hp 3.5-liter V6 engine or a 306-hp 3.5-liter V6 engine.

The 2017 IS will not be offered as a hybrid, Edmunds has learned.

Key IS competitors include the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Edmunds says: If you're considering a luxury sedan purchase later this year, you may want to take a closer look at the upgraded 2017 Lexus IS.
