2017 Kia Sportage Interior Revealed Ahead of the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show

SEOUL, South Korea — Car shoppers got their first look at the all-new cabin of the redesigned 2017 Kia Sportage, which features high-quality materials and more room for passengers. The Sportage will debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show.

The cabin represents "one of the most significant improvements over the third-generation car," Kia said in a statement on Wednesday.

A vertical cabin layout has been scratched in favor of a more contemporary, horizontal look highlighted by a driver-oriented dashboard and redesigned seats. Metal trim is blended with soft-touch materials. New technology includes wireless phone charging.

The wheelbase in the 2017 Sportage is stretched 1.18 inches, allowing for more space in the cabin.

The new Sportage also will be quieter than the outgoing model, with more attention paid to reducing noise, vibration and harshness by adding soundproofing in the doors and extra dashboard insulation.

U.S. technical specifications and launch timing on the 2017 Sportage have not been announced.

The exterior of the Sportage gets a bold new look inspired by jets, as the Korean SUV gets set to battle the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, Mitsubishi Outlander Sport and Toyota RAV4.

The 2016 Sportage, which carries over with minor changes, is on sale now at Kia dealerships.

Edmunds says: The next Kia Sportage will continue to take the brand upmarket, something that should please shoppers in this crowded segment.
