2017 Infiniti Q30 Targets a New Generation of Buyers: 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show

FRANKFURT, Germany — The 2017 Infiniti Q30, an all-new luxury crossover designed to lure a "new generation of premium buyers" into Infiniti showrooms, will debut on Tuesday at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show.

It marks Infiniti's first global entry into the premium-compact segment. The Q30 goes on sale in the U.S. in the first half of 2016.

Infiniti spokesman Nick Twork told Edmunds that the U.S. will only get the Q30 with a 208-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine from the Mercedes portfolio and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Other global markets get a variety of powertrain options, including a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and a six-speed manual transmission. They will not be available here. Neither will diesel options, including 1.5- and 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engines.

Twork said no U.S. pricing is available yet, but noted: "We will be competitive."

Consumers can expect a price tag of around $30,000-$32,000. The Q30 will be built in Sunderland, England.

Key Q30 rivals include the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class.

Infiniti said the Q30 is designed for "buyers who are not willing to be defined by their choice of vehicle body type."

Exterior cues include a long hood, an angular roof line and sculpted sides.

The cabin gets "designer" trims, including white leather with red accents and black upholstery with purple stitching.

Sports seats with integrated headrests are optional. They feature eight-way adjustment and lumbar support.

Safety features include a blind-spot warning system, forward-collision warning with forward emergency braking and intelligent cruise control.

Infiniti's InTouch infotainment system in the Q30 has a tablet-like look.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers making plans for next year may want to pencil in the Q30 on their lists. It's one of the most important debuts at the Frankfurt show and is sure to be a major showroom draw.
