2017 Hyundai Sonata Earns 5-Star Safety Rating From Federal Government


WASHINGTON — The 2017 Hyundai Sonata midsize sedan earned the highest five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

On sale now at Hyundai dealerships, the carryover 2017 Sonata received five stars in the front and side crash tests and four stars in the rollover crash test.

The rating also applies to the 2017 Sonata Hybrid.

The 2017 Sonata Plug-in Hybrid has not been rated.

Standard safety features on the 2017 Sonata include antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability control, a rearview camera and seven airbags, including a driver knee airbag.

Optional safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning and blind-spot monitoring. Dynamic bending headlights that turn in the direction of a curve are optional on the Limited model.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not rated the 2017 Sonata.

Key Sonata competitors include the Ford Fusion, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers keeping score should note that the 2017 Ford Fusion, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry also earned the highest five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA.
