2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Among Models To Feature Free DIY Smartphone Integration

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, California — Hyundai is offering a free do-it-yourself software download that will provide smartphone integration for owners of several existing models equipped with navigation systems, including the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe, 2016 Sonata, Genesis, Elantra GT and Tucson.

The DIY download is also available free to owners of the 2015 Sonata and Genesis with navigation and on the 2017 Santa Fe Sport, also with the available navigation system.

Hyundai said it will soon make an announcement about software upgrades for other model-year 2016 nav-equipped vehicles, including the Sonata Hybrid, Sonata Plug-In Hybrid, Veloster and Azera

The integration software, which owners can download at no cost from MyHyundai.com, is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but those who don't want to handle the chore themselves can visit their local Hyundai dealership and have it installed for a service charge.

Hyundai notes that computer download times range from 15 minutes to 3 hours, depending on model, and then the upload to the vehicle's system will run 20-40 minutes.

"Launching smartphone integrations on these existing models through MyHyundai will enhance the overall ownership experience," said Barry Ratzlaff, executive director of digital business planning and connected operations for Hyundai Motor America, in a statement. "Existing owners can now get the most out of their smartphones, by simply loading new software into their cars' infotainment systems. Just a few years ago, they would have had to buy a new car to get such a powerful upgrade."

This is not the first time Hyundai has made a software upgrade available through the MyHyundai.com portal.

As reported by Edmunds, last year the Korean automaker offered owners of the 2015 Sonata with navigation free Android Auto smartphone integration, either by downloading it on their own or by visiting a Hyundai dealership.

Edmunds says: Smartphone integration provides Hyundai owners with a host of convenient and useful apps, and getting the download for free makes it even better.
