GENEVA — The 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback, which arrives at Honda dealerships later this year, is previewed in prototype form at the 2016 Geneva Auto Show.
The new Civic model targets other compact hatchbacks, including the Ford Focus, Kia Forte, Mazda 3, Subaru Impreza and Volkswagen Golf GTI.
American Honda Motor Co. on Tuesday said the Honda Civic Hatchback Prototype will make its North American debut in New York on March 22, just ahead of the 2016 New York Auto Show.
Pricing and U.S. technical specifications on the production version were not announced.
The prototype showcases an "aggressive new design" for the five-door Civic model, Honda said in a statement. Details include dual rear spoilers and twin center-mounted exhaust tips.
The hatchback follows the 2016 Honda Civic sedan and coupe to market. A new Honda Civic Si and new Civic Type R will debut later.
Edmunds says: The new Civic Hatchback, which has been absent from Honda showrooms for more than a decade, aims to attract younger buyers.
