The price includes a $945 destination charge and reflects a $110 increase over the base 2016 Explorer.
The top-of-the-line 2017 Explorer Platinum model is priced at $54,180, including shipping.
The addition of a new XLT Sport Appearance Package, which adds $1,295 to the bottom line, gives the 2017 Explorer a fresh new look.
The cosmetic package does not add any mechanical upgrades. It features a dark-accented exterior, including 20-inch Magnetic Gray wheels, grille, mirrors caps and rear appliqué, along with Ebony Black body-side molding.
The cabin features Dark Gray front seats with leather bolsters and suede for inserts and door panels.
"Exterior appearance is the No. 1 consideration in SUV purchase decisions," said Omar Odeh, Explorer brand marketing manager, in a statement. "The XLT Sport Appearance package is a dramatic offering that gives customers another attractive option."
The package enhances the standard XLT model, which is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine, push-button start, a 10-way power driver seat, the Sync 3 infotainment system and LED foglamps.
Edmunds says: SUV shoppers will want to visit their local Ford dealer to check out the new XLT Sport Appearance Package on the 2017 Explorer.
