2017 Chevrolet Equinox, Traverse Special Editions Debut at Chevrolet Dealerships

DETROIT — The 2017 Chevrolet Equinox Midnight Edition and Sport Edition and the 2017 Chevrolet Traverse Graphite Edition are on sale now at Chevrolet dealerships.

Competitors to the Equinox compact SUV include the Ford Escape, Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, and key Traverse rivals among midsize SUVs include the Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot and Nissan Pathfinder.

The two Equinox special-edition models are available only on the LT trim level equipped with the Convenience package and are priced at an additional $1,695. That brings the total price of the special models to $30,540 each, including an $895 destination charge and the optional package.

The 2017 Equinox Midnight Edition comes in Mosaic Black Metallic, and the Sport Edition is offered in Summit White.

Special touches on both models include black grilles and Chevrolet bowtie logos, black rear fascia, unique black 18-inch aluminum wheels, black mirror caps and roof-rack crossbars, perforated leather-trimmed seats and memory settings for the driver's seat and exterior mirrors.

The 2017 Traverse Graphite Edition can be ordered exclusively on the 2LT trim level for an extra $2,345, with an exterior color selection that includes Mosaic Black Metallic, Tungsten Metallic, Siren Red Tintcoat and Iridescent Pearl Tricoat. Buyers will pay $39,890, including an $895 destination charge and the package price for this special model.

Special features on the Traverse Graphite Edition include black Chevrolet bowties, dual exhausts with bright tips, 20-inch Dark Charcoal wheels, trailering equipment and an integrated assist step.

The three new special editions join the 2016 Trax Midnight Edition and 2016 Colorado Midnight Edition in Chevrolet's growing lineup of specially outfitted SUVs and pickup trucks and should help keep the attention of Equinox and Traverse shoppers until the models are redesigned for 2018.

"Special Editions resonate with buyers, offering a unique package with unique looks," said Betsy Flegg, senior manager for Chevrolet SUVs, in a statement. "We've already seen a strong interest with the Trax Midnight Edition when we announced production last December. We anticipate customers will strongly like the looks of the new Equinox Midnight and Sport Editions and Traverse Graphite Edition."

Edmunds says: The new special editions should appeal to shoppers looking to add a bit of pizzazz to their 2017 Chevrolet Equinox or Traverse.
