2017 Audi A6 Earns Five-Star Safety Rating From Federal Government

WASHINGTON — The 2017 Audi A6 midsize luxury sedan earned the highest five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

On sale now at Audi dealerships, the 2017 A6 received five stars in the front, side and rollover crash tests.

The rating applies to front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions of the 2017 A6.

Audi updated the A6 for the 2016 model year. The carryover 2017 A6 models receive updated exterior design enhancements and an improved infotainment system.

Standard safety equipment on the 2017 A6 includes eight airbags, along with electronic stability control and antilock brakes.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not rated the 2017 A6, but the 2016 model earned the Top Safety Pick+ award, receiving "good" scores in all Institute crash tests.

Key competitors to the A6 include the BMW 5 Series, Lexus GS and Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedans.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers keeping score should note that NHTSA has not yet rated the 2017 BMW 5 Series, Lexus GS and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
