2016 Volkswagen Beetle Dune Reveals a Tougher-Looking Beetle: 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show

LOS ANGELES — Volkswagen used the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show to unveil the 2016 Beetle Dune. Available as a coupe or convertible, the Beetle Dune adds an appearance package, exclusive paint choices and a modest increase in ground clearance.

The Beetle Dune's front and rear bumper covers, sill pieces and wheels are unique to this variant. Revised springs raise the ride height by 0.4 inch, while new wheels widen the Dune's track by 0.6 inch.

There are no other hardware changes unique to the Dune, and all Dunes will be configured with a 170-horsepower 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine and six-speed automatic transmission.

Beetle Dune models will be offered in three unique shades — Pure White, Deep Black Pearl and Sandstorm Yellow, the latter of which receives body-color accents inside the cabin.

Interior upgrades common to all 2016 Beetles include an updated multimedia interface.

Available option packages include Lighting, which adds HID headlights and LED secondary lighting, and Technology, which adds a host of traditional features.

Beetle Dune coupes arrive at Volkswagen dealers early next year, and convertible variants arrive in the fall.

Edmunds says: An interesting variation on the Beetle that might attract some buyers who otherwise wouldn't have given the iconic coupe a second look.
