TORRANCE, California — The upgraded 2016 Scion tC hatchback will arrive at Scion dealerships in August, starting at $20,180, Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. said on Thursday.

The price includes a $795 destination charge and reflects a $200 increase over the 2015 model.

The base price is for a Scion tC with a six-speed manual transmission.

The 2016 Scion tC with a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters starts at $21,330, including shipping.

Upgrades include a new standard audio system, a smart key with push-button start and standard rear windshield wiper.

Other improvements include new silver interior door handles, a center console tray cover and a leather-wrapped shift knob.

Key competitors to the tC include the Ford Fiesta ST, Scion FR-S and Volkswagen GTI.

Edmunds says: Scion's top seller gets tweaked for the new model year, something that buyers in this category should appreciate.
