NASHVILLE, Tennessee — Nissan is getting ready to unleash the redesigned 2016 Nissan Titan pickup truck and will tell the story of the truck's development in a series of short videos called a "Truckumentary" — short for truck and documentary.
Stealing a page from the playbook of such film titans as Ken Burns, the "Truckumentary" is calculated to stir up emotions about truck ownership while taking aim at such major players as the Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-150, Ram 1500 and Toyota Tundra.
Additional engine choices, including a Cummins diesel, and updated features are expected to be some of the highlights of the redesigned Titan.
Nissan confirmed in August 2013 that one of those engine choices will be a new Cummins 5.0-liter V8 turbodiesel.
The initial Truckumentary teaser video was released on Wednesday, showcasing Nissan product planners and designers via a storytelling technique.
They reminisce about growing up on ranches and farms with trucks as everyday vehicles.
"The unifying link between us is that we pretty much all grew up as truck people," said Rich Miller, director of product planning for trucks and SUVs for Nissan North America. "Many of us were raised in families where trucks were a given — we've never known life without a truck in the driveway."
He added: "Our truck team gets that these are multipurpose vehicles, and they've built in this capacity for commuting, recreation and labor, all working in conjunction with one another, into the next-generation Titan."
The series will launch in mid-December with more than a dozen videos about the new Titan rolling out next year.
No official word yet about pricing or launch timing on the 2016 Titan.
Edmunds says: The narrative begins on the 2016 Titan, which is determined to go head-to-head against some towering competitors.
