2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe Production Begins in Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama — Luxury buyers who have the all-new 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe on their shopping lists will be cheering a major milestone for the SUV/coupe-like vehicle.

Production of the first "customer-ready" GLE Coupe began on Wednesday at the Mercedes-Benz Tuscaloosa, Alabama plant, parent Daimler said.

The GLE Coupe is expected to arrive at U.S. Mercedes-Benz dealerships in late summer. Pricing has not been announced.

Mercedes-Benz is calling 2015 "the year of the SUV for the brand."

The majority of its SUV portfolio is being updated, including the former Mercedes-Benz M-Class, now called the GLE-Class.

Key GLE Coupe rivals include the BMW X6, Land Rover Range Rover Sport and Porsche Cayenne.

Edmunds says: The highly anticipated 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe will be in showrooms before too long.
