STUTTGART, Germany — The new 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 AMG 4Matic Coupe, described by the automaker as an SUV in the E-Class coupe segment, arrives at U.S. Mercedes-Benz dealerships in late summer 2015, the automaker said on Tuesday.
U.S. pricing has not been announced on the GLE 450 AMG 4Matic Coupe.
Mercedes-Benz is hoping to find some uncharted territory in the market by pitching the five-passenger GLE Coupe as a cross between a coupe and an SUV.
"Despite the similarity to an SUV with its raised seating position and expansive all-around view, the occupants are led to believe that they are in sports rather than off-road mode," Mercedes-Benz said.
U.S. consumers can also expect a Mercedes-AMG variant of the GLE Coupe.
In the meantime, car shoppers who are making long-range plans for some luxury-vehicle shopping can take note of the newly released details on the GLE 450 AMG 4Matic Coupe.
The 2016 GLE 450 AMG 4Matic is equipped with a 362-horsepower biturbo V6 engine linked to a standard 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission and permanent all-wheel drive.
Standard features include a dynamic handling control system, a power tailgate and crosswind assist. AMG body styling includes a rear spoiler lip painted in the vehicle color and 21-inch AMG light-alloy wheels.
The cabin is equipped with standard AMG sports seats and a three-spoke AMG sports steering wheel.
A generous list of safety features includes active blind spot assist and active lane keeping assist.
Edmunds says: Your Mercedes-Benz dealer will have a sportier "SUV" choice in the showroom next summer.
