Pricing includes a $925 destination charge. There is no gas-guzzler tax, Mercedes-Benz spokesman Christian Bokich told Edmunds.
The G65 AMG has been sold in other markets, but is just now set for a U.S. debut.
Standard and optional equipment and specifications will be released closer to the launch date. Mercedes-Benz said the G65 AMG is equipped with a 6.0-liter biturbo V12 engine that delivers 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. It has an estimated 0-60-mph time of 5.3 seconds.
"The G-Class is the only off-road vehicle in its class to combine the electronic traction system 4ETS with a transfer case and three 100 percent differential locks," Mercedes-Benz said in a statement.
Buyers should expect some updates to the front and rear bumper, along with new wheels and a new Mercedes-AMG G65 nameplate.
Mercedes-Benz says it is the fourth exclusive AMG model priced above $200,000. AMG is the performance arm of the German automaker.
In comparison, the 2015 Mercedes-AMG G-Class G63 SUV is priced at $138,025, including a $925 destination charge.
Edmunds says: Luxury shoppers will see a substantial price bump over the G63 AMG, but will get bragging rights to one of the most desirable SUVs out there.
