On sale now at Mazda dealerships, the 2016 CX-3 received five stars in the front and side crash tests and four stars in the rollover crash test.
The rating applies to front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions of the CX-3.
Standard safety equipment on the 2016 CX-3 includes six airbags, antilock brakes, stability control, traction control and a rearview camera. A blind-spot monitoring system and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on the CX-3 Touring and Grand Touring models.
A Smart Brake support system with collision warning is optional.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not rated the 2016 CX-3.
Edmunds says: Car shoppers keeping score should note that the 2016 Chevrolet Trax and Honda HR-V also earned the highest five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA. The 2016 Nissan Juke earned a four-star overall safety rating.
